Lake Fork Fishing Report Feb 26th, 2025
Today was some tough fishing and I missed a huge fish! I fished 3 arms up in Birch, middle of the lake, then down to Dale, then up to Running Creek and some main lak spots.... I'll tell you what... I was hard pressed at even seeing fish much less catching them. It doesn't seem like the bass have moved up to spawn yet in most of those places...the backs of the creeks are empty without fish, or bait fish... was tough fishing all day. I did manage to catch a bass off of a red rattle trap off a dock in the mid part of the lake in 4' of water... I talked to about 4 other boaters and everyone was having the same luck..
I missed a absolute giant of a fish this morning... My lure was acting funny so I set the hook and nothing was there... I started reeling only to find that I had a fish on...I started reeling and he peeled out line....twice...on the second time I lifted my rod bringing him to the surface and I just saw the white side of a big ol fish...making a bull run....as soon as he came up..he spit the hook and kept going... It was so painful... I don't think I got a good hookset because he was already swimming to the boat...ah well I know where he lives... missed 2 other fish as well...a big day for missing fish... not many bites but the bites that I did had were healthy drag pullers...would have been fun to see the other 2 but wasn't so lucky..
it's mid week Wed so maybe a couple more days will bring the bass into the creeks.. I think I just found early spawners... all fish I hooked were in 2-5' of water...with a deep drop off near by... Water Temp is 54..in most of the lake. Bass spawn at 55 degrees. We are close...
